About Us
The Carlos Soccer Youth Development Academy is an organisation based
in East London which was established in 2014 by Eric Mtshamba. The
academy was formed with the purpose of identifying and developing
talented youths into professional athletes while also ensuring that
the academic side is not ignored as not all boys will turn
professional. Currently, the academy has a total of 90 boys aged
between 11-19 years old and they are coached by a former professional
soccer player who is assisted by two other coaches.
The
academy has throughout the years managed to establish links /
relationships with professional soccer teams in the South African
Premier League. The academy also conducts annual tours to Johannesburg
during the June holidays where matches are played against DStv Premier
League sides such as SuperSport United Football Club, TS Galaxy
Football Cluband Bidvest Wits Football Club. These tours provide the
youngsters with an opportunity to showcase their talents while also
gaining first-hand experience on what the life of a professional
soccer player is like. Amongst its achievement, the academy has one
player who is a professional, Aphelele Teto from Scenery Park playing
for DStv Premiership side, TS Galaxy Football Club, who was identified
through these tours. The Academy also has Aphelele Mhlaba who hails
from Ngcobo playing for TS Galaxy Diski Team. Furthermore, the Academy
has 5 more players who are with TS Galaxy Under 17 team.
